ICC softball coach Chad Case added more firepower to the defending North Division Champion Lady Indians' roster for next season with the addition of Saltillo High School standout Lindsay Richardson.
"I came to ICC because I got an awesome opportunity to play softball for Coach Case and it's a really good opportunity to open new doors, to meet new friends, and experience college life," said Richardson. CeCee Austin earns All-American status after two seasons at ICC Adam Gore/ICC Sports Information Department
CeCee Austin has always proven to be a difficult out throughout her two-year career with the ICC Lady Indians' softball program and her dedication to the sport was justly rewarded when she was selected to the NCJAA Softball All-American Third Team this past Wednesday.
"It feels amazing, I really can't describe how it feels," Austin said about being named an All-American. "I just wanted to work hard and give it my all every time I stepped on the field." During her freshman year, the former South Pontotoc star had a .450 batting average connecting on 68 hits with 17 going for extra bases and 15 home runs. She drove in 64 runs and scored 58 in 46 games while hoisting a fielding percentage of .928 with only 10 errors on 128 attempts as a pitcher and shortstop.
In her final season at ICC, Austin ripped 75 hits with 16 going for extra bases and 12 home runs for a .452 batting average and .494 on-base percentage. She pushed across 45 runs while scoring 47 more and remained steady defensively with a .912 fielding percentage after starting 50 games at shortstop. She helped lead the Lady Indians to their first-ever North Division Championship and earning North Division MVP honors along the way.
Austin leaves ICC with a .468 career batting averaging with 143 hits, 29 doubles, four triples, 27 home runs, 109 RBI, and 105 runs scored. She ranked amongst the nation's best in every offensive category during her two seasons at ICC. She was a two-time All-State, All-Region, and All-North Division selection.
"This is a goal that CeCee has worked really hard to earn ever since she came to ICC," said ICC head coach Chad Case. "She's leaving us with some tough shoes to fill, but she's also leaving us with the proof of what hard work and dedication can lead you to."
The Class of 2010 ranks as one of the most successful sophomore classes in school history. They were the second team to top the 50-win career mark with 56 victories, setting a school record for most wins in a season as freshman with 30 wins. They qualified for postseason play both seasons to extend the Lady Indians playoff appearances to three-straight years.
"I have so many memories (at ICC)," said Austin. "I'm going to miss the friends I made at ICC and I had a lot of fun playing there the past two years."
CeCee will continue her softball career next season at Belhaven College where she plans to pursue a career in teaching and coaching. She is the daughter of Larry and Kay Ausitn of Randolph and the granddaughter of Punk and Mable Ford of Amory.
